QBE Re has named Sven Liu as its new head of Greater China, in line with the reinsurer’s plan to grow its treaty reinsurance business in Asia, the business announced in a media release on Monday.
Liu has more than 16 years of experience in Asia and Europe with global reinsurers, including as CEO of SCOR China between 2022 and 2023, and senior roles accross underwriting, client management, and business development during his 15 years with Munich Re.
Based in Singapore, Liu will oversee portfolio management and seek growth in the Greater China region, reporting to Cindy Foo, head of Asia, treaty.
“We are delighted to welcome Sven to the role as we look to grow our Asia hub,” Foo said. “Sven brings a wealth of experience to QBE Re and will play an important role in building out the portfolio in Greater China.”
Liu’s move follow the appointment of Foo herself, who commenced her new role as head of Asia, treaty in December. In the same month, the wider business announced that Nick Hankin had been promoted to managing director for QBE Re.
