Insurance Australia Group has partnered with First Nations Foundation in a three-year initiative aimed at strengthening financial literacy and insurance awareness within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
The partnership will support the expansion of the foundation’s digital financial education programmes and the development of a general insurance module under its “My Money Dream” initiative, with a focus on improving understanding of financial risk and insurance protection.
IAG said the collaboration forms part of its broader financial inclusion and reconciliation efforts, particularly around improving accessibility and understanding of insurance products among underserved communities.
“As Australia’s largest general insurer with the purpose to make your world a safer place, we recognise we have an important role to play in responsibly addressing barriers preventing First Nations peoples from accessing insurance,” Julie Batch, CEO of retail insurance Australia at IAG, said.
The insurer added that insights from the programme and the foundation’s research would also help strengthen cultural capability across its customer support frameworks and workplace policies.
First Nations Foundation, a national Indigenous-led organisation focused on financial wellbeing and economic inclusion, delivers culturally informed financial education initiatives aimed at improving money management and long-term financial resilience.
Leah Bennett, chief executive of First Nations Foundation, said the partnership would help expand the organisation’s education pathways and digital tools designed to support financial wellbeing across Indigenous communities.
The collaboration also supports goals outlined under IAG’s Financial Inclusion Action Plan and its Reconciliation Action Plan, which includes commitments to partner with Indigenous-led organisations delivering social and economic outcomes for First Nations communities.
