Avant Mutual has promoted Chief Financial Officer Adrian Urquhart to Chief Executive and Managing Director, effective 1 October, as Natasha Fenech steps down from the role, the company said in a media release on Sunday, 20 July.
Urquhart has been with Avant Mutual since September 2023, where he oversaw financial reporting, internal audit, and regulatory compliance as CFO. Prior to joining Avant Mutual, he served as CFO of TOGA and AMP, operating out of Sydney, Australia.
Commenting on his appointment, Avant Mutual Chair Dr. Steve Hambleton said, “He is a natural leader who genuinely cares about our membership, and it is particularly pleasing to promote an internal candidate to this pivotal role.”
Urquhart succeeds Fenech, who first joined the company in 2019. She will pursue a portfolio career as a Non-Executive Director at AMPCo.
Under Fenech’s leadership, Avant Mutual achieved nearly A$700 million (approximately US$456.02m) in revenue growth, which includes its core Medical Indemnity business and the expansion of the Doctors Health Fund.
Hambleton also recognised her role in establishing a A$50m capital contribution toward the Avant Foundation, adding: “She has worked tirelessly for our members and leaves Avant as a vibrant, professionally managed mutual that remains focused on delivering in the best interests of its members.”
