Markel has appointed Collin Sim as its first dedicated Casualty underwriter in Singapore, the business announced on Thursday (25 June).

Sim brings more than 2 decades of experience in casualty insurance, most recently serving as Assistant Vice President of General Casualty at Allied World. She also spent 17 years as a Casualty Facultative Manager at Gen Re, working across Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, and China.

In her new role, she is in charge of developing the specialty insurer’s casualty presence in Asia Pacific, building strategic relationships with brokers and clients, and managing the company’s risk portfolio, Markel said.

Wanshi Lin, Head of Markel Singapore, praised Sim’s deep understanding of the Asian casualty market, saying: “This strategic appointment demonstrates our commitment to building strong underwriting capabilities and delivering exceptional service to our clients and partners across Asia Pacific.”

Asia Pacific Managing Director Christian Stobbs said that Sim’s appointment is a “significant milestone” for the company’s regional growth strategy. “Her proven track record in developing profitable casualty portfolios and her deep relationships across the Asian insurance market make her the ideal candidate to establish and grow our casualty practice in Singapore.”

Stobbs is set to leave his Asia Pacific post but will remain with the company, with Sucheng Chang taking on the new role of Managing Director for Asia Pacific, effective 14 July.
