Parametric specialists Descartes Underwriting on Thursday announced that Ben Qin has been promoted to the role of Head of Asia Pacific.
Qin has been serving as Head of North Asia and Australia and first joined the business to help launch its presence in APAC, successfully establishing the Sydney office four years ago, followed by the launches of the Hong Kong and Tokyo offices two years later.
He brings nearly two decades of regional experience and, prior to Descartes, spent eight years at Marsh, where he led the Alternative Risk Transfer function for Asia Pacific in his last four years.
In his new role, Qin will continue to be based in Sydney and will oversee Descartes’ operations across all APAC markets.
“Ben has been pivotal in Descartes’ expansion in APAC since he joined the company,” said Sébastien Piguet, Co-founder and Chief Insurance Officer of Descartes Underwriting. “I am therefore delighted to work with him and the entire APAC team to further grow our relationship with brokers and clients in the region.”
In addition to Qin’s appointment, the MGA also announced another key strategic role with WeeBeng Seow being named as acting Head of Southeast Asia.
Singapore-based WeeBeng has been with Descartes for nearly four years as Business Development Director. His appointment follows the departure of his predecessor, Robert Drysdale, who has moved to Consilium to take on the role of CEO at Cedant Fac for Asia at Consilium.
