Former Hong Kong Insurance Authority (IA) acting general counsel Patrick Peng has been appointed as Clyde & Co’s Head of Corporate for Greater China, the global law firm announced on Thursday, 27 November.
Peng spent more than eight years with the IA, first joining as a senior legal counsel in 2017. Prior to this, he also worked as a solicitor for US-based legal firms.
In a media release, Clyde & Co underscored Peng’s “unique perspective” with his experience in guiding regulatory framework development. Notably, he contributed to Hong Kong’s captive domicile, insurance-linked securities, risk-based capital regime, group-wide supervision, and company re-domiciliation frameworks.
Commenting on the announcement, Simon McConnell, Partner and APAC Board Chair, Hong Kong, stated that Peng’s “sophisticated understanding of the regulatory process, combined with his proven track record in corporate law, is a tremendous asset for clients.”
Meanwhile, Hong Kong Managing Partner Fei Kwok said the appointment also enables Clyde & Co to further expand its operations across Hong Kong, Beijing, and the Greater Bay Area. “Family offices and digital asset participants will also greatly benefit from [Peng’s] extensive experience.
