John Neal has reversed his decision to join Aon and will instead take on the role of President of General Insurance at AIG.
In January, Aon announced Neal would be moving to the business as Global CEO of Reinsurance and Global Chairman of Solutions in January of this year, with a planned start date in September.
However, on Wednesday, AIG announced that Neal’s new role, in which he is set to lead the North America Commercial Insurance, International Commercial Insurance, and Global Personal Insurance businesses.
Neal brings extensive industry experience, having most recently served as Lloyd’s CEO for nearly 7 years. He also spent more than a decade at QBE Insurance, where he was the Group CEO based in Sydney, Australia, from 2012 to 2017.
AIG Chairman and CEO Peter Zaffino said, “I have known John for more than 20 years, and he is widely recognised as one of the most accomplished insurance executives in the industry. His appointment adds significant depth, global underwriting experience, and talent to our leadership team.”
Timed alongside the news of Neal’s reversal, Aon Re on Wednesday also announced its own key executive changes, which include Alfonso Valera as CEO of International, Reinsurance, overseeing operations across APAC, EMEA, and the United Kingdom.
