Aon announced key executive changes across its reinsurance business on 16 July, including George Attard’s appointment as Global Head of Strategy and Alfonso Valera as CEO of International, Reinsurance.

Attard has been with Aon for 17 years, holding a number of key roles, including most recently as CEO of Reinsurance Solutions for the Asia Pacific.

Valera has also taken on an expanded role, overseeing Aon’s Reinsurance operations in APAC, EMEA, and the United Kingdom. Before his appointment, he served as co-CEO of EMEA and General Manager for Aon Re Iberia.

Along with Valera and Attard, Aon also named Steve Hofmann as CEO of Americas, Reinsurance and Tomas Novotny as Chairman of International, Reinsurance.

Speaking on the appointments, CEO for Global Solutions Andy Marcell highlighted that “depth and quality” of leadership across Aon.

“Together, they bring decades of leadership experience, deep client relationships, market knowledge and domain expertise. Supported by outstanding talent and experts across our regions, they will help shape the next stage of our growth,” Marcell added.

The leadership shuffle came on the heels of three senior appointments in Asia in early July, with Tom Greenaway as Asia Strategic Growth Leader Reinsurance, SP Hong as President, Reinsurance for Aon’s Korea Unit, and Jay Choi as Director, Reinsurance for the Korean team.
