Miller has appointed David Robinson as Chief Executive Officer and Neil Ross as Chief Underwriting Officer of its Managing General Agent (MGA) platform, according to a press release on 13 October.

Robinson joins from specialty MGA Optio Group, where he most recently served as CEO after overseeing the firm’s underwriting, claims, and actuarial functions. He previously spent 25 years with Chubb and ACE, culminating in his role as Regional President for the UK and Ireland at the latter, overseeing property and casualty, accident and health, specialty personal lines, and high-net-worth business.

Ross moves from AXIS Capital, where he spent 14 years in senior roles, most recently as Head of Retail for Global Markets. His two-decade career spans liability, cyber, and property classes, and he has been involved in developing digital underwriting capabilities aimed at expanding access to niche specialty segments.

Miller Group CEO James Hands said the appointments represent “a significant step in our ambition to build out a broader MGA offering within the Miller Group,” adding that Robinson and Ross “will focus on developing an underwriting-led MGA platform which builds long-term collaborative partnerships that allow us to bring specialist expertise and innovative products to the market.”

Robinson said he was “delighted to be leading the formation of this offering within the Miller Group,” noting that the firm’s “entrepreneurial culture, practitioner-led mindset and dedication to specialism create the perfect foundations to build a meaningful underwriting business in the specialty space.”

Ross added that the new platform “will be able [to] offer insurers a partner that can provide access to opportunities in traditionally hard to reach areas of specialty,” emphasising a “data driven approach” aimed at maximising profitability for capacity providers.

The announcement follows another global appointment by Miller in October, with Nick Taylor named as Head of Direct P&I within its marine team.
