HDI Global has designated Hiro Yamasaki as managing director and legal representative of its Japanese office, the company announced on Tuesday.
Yamasaki succeeds Casey Sandler, who has led the Japanese branch on an interim basis since 1 August 2025, and will leave the business.
Yamasaki joins from Tokio Marine, where he most recently served in a global corporate underwriting role, focusing on underwriting enhancements, natural catastrophe exposure optimisation, and AI strategies in underwriting.
He brings more than 25 years of experience in commercial property and casualty underwriting, portfolio management, and international leadership. He has held senior roles in Japan and the US, leading large-scale underwriting initiatives and managing group-wide natural catastrophe exposure.
“Japan is a key market for HDI Global, and strengthening our leadership team is an important step in our growth strategy,” said David Hullin, Member of the HDI Global Executive Board. “Hiro brings deep technical expertise and international experience that perfectly complement our disciplined underwriting approach.”
Hullin also thanked the outgoing Sandler: “We would like to thank Casey for his commitment and the valuable contributions he made in the various roles he held at HDI Global Japan. We are sorry to see him leave and wish him all the best for his future endeavours.”
Yamasaki’s appointment comes after HDI Global’s recent announcement of changes to its Hong Kong Property team, with Eric Fung retiring after more than 10 years of service and Kenneth Law taking on the role of property underwriting manager for North Asia.
