Howden Re has named Candy Wong as Head of Treaty in Hong Kong, the broker announced on Monday, supporting the broker’s ongoing efforts to expand its presence in the SAR following the launch of its reinsurance broking platform in July.
Wong is an established reinsurance professional with more than 40 years of experience, most recently serving as Managing Director for Guy Carpenter. She also spent over three decades at Aon Re China.
In her new capacity, Wong is expected to lead Howden Re’s Hong Kong office, focusing on developing and delivering its treaty reinsurance proposition and providing technical expertise and market insight to local clients.
Andy Souter, Head of Asia Pacific at Howden Re, described Wong as a crucial addition to their expanding platform, recognising her as “one of the most experienced and trusted professionals in the Hong Kong reinsurance market.”
“She has a strong track record of building both Specialty and Property & Casualty capabilities, which will help to shape our local presence for years to come,” Souter added.
The announcement comes on the heels of Howden Re’s launch of a reinsurance broking platform in Hong Kong, with Roy Wong taking the helm as Managing Director, Reinsurance, on 21 July.
Commenting on her appointment, Wong shared her excitement to join Howden Re’s APAC team: “I look forward to working closely with Roy and the broader leadership team to help build a treaty proposition that reflects the needs and ambitions of Hong Kong clients.”
According to Howden Re, the announcement marks another milestone in the company’s talent and expansion across APAC. Alongside Roy Wong and Candy Wong, Brian Chan and Karen Liu have also joined Howden Re Hong Kong as senior brokers.
