Specialist (re)insurance broker Miller has appointed Paul Cumberland to the newly created global role of Chief Broking Officer.
Cumberland joins Miller from Howden, where he has worked for over five years as an Executive Director.
In his new role, Cumberland will lead Miller’s market engagement, data-led innovation, and service development initiatives as the broker aims to push forward with its programme of investment and growth. He will report directly to Group CEO James Hands.
He brings more than 25 years of experience in the insurance industry. In his career, Cumberland has gained extensive expertise in broking, underwriting, and portfolio management. Before working for Howden, he also held senior positions at firms including Aon, Markel, and Marsh.
Cumberland expressed his excitement in joining Miller, saying that “In this new role, I look forward to uniting the company’s assets into a cohesive proposition for both clients and insurers and further accelerating our ambitious growth plans.”
Meanwhile, Hands welcomed Cumberland to the company, noting that his “wealth of experience will be invaluable” for the company. He also said that Cumberland “will be at the forefront of helping us deliver a unified proposition to the market and I am delighted to have him on.”
Apart from Cumberland’s appointment, Miller has also announced key personnel announcements in the APAC region in the past couple of months. Last month, the firm announced a new South Korea Marine team, headlined by KS Shim, who was named Head of Specialty. Meanwhile, in June, Martin Dimas moved to Miller to head the company’s Indonesia operations.
