Prudential Hong Kong and Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong) will provide emergency financial support to individuals hospitalised after the Tai Po fire.
The companies said they would jointly offer a one-off payment of HK$20,000 (US$2,569.34) to each hospitalised victim to help cover medical and daily expenses.
Prudential and Standard Chartered, long-term partners, said they were “deeply saddened by the recent fire incident in Tai Po” and extended condolences to affected residents and their families. Both companies described the initiative as an effort to deliver practical support to those impacted by the tragedy.
The announcement comes as Hong Kong’s insurance sector steps up relief efforts following the deadly Wang Fuk Court blaze. Industry donations have surpassed HK$327m, supported by a mix of corporate pledges and coordinated fundraising.
AIA, Manulife, Prudential, Sun Life, FWD and Ping An have each pledged between HK$10m and HK$40m, while banks including HSBC and Hang Seng have also committed significant sums.
The fire, the city’s worst in decades, has killed more than 150 people and left many others injured or missing.
