The Southeast Asia Disaster Risk Insurance Facility (SEADRIF) has appointed Kara Devonna Siahaan as Strategy Advisor for the SEADRIF Initiative, the not-for-profit announced in a statement on LinkedIn.
In her role, Siahaan will focus on strategy and governance for the not-for-profit, working closely with Yoshihiro Kawai, the SEADRIF Initiative Director and Secretary-General of the ASEAN+3 Disaster Risk Financing (DRF) Initiative.
Siahaan brings over 15 years of experience in the humanitarian and development sectors, with expertise in global disaster response, risk reduction, and climate change adaptation. She has also collaborated extensively with scientists, policymakers, and practitioners during her tenure with organizations such as the Red Cross, the United Nations, and various government agencies.
Notably, Siahaan co-designed the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC)’s Forecast-based Action by the DREF, a pioneering funding mechanism that facilitates anticipatory actions based on forecast data, SEADRIF said.
Siahaan also serves as a consultant for the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). Prior, she was Head of the Anticipation Hub, a global platform that connects over 120 partner organisations to enhance disaster preparedness.
