Vero Insurance has appointed engineer and technical underwriter Jacob Hewitt to its Business Property team as Construction and Engineering Portfolio Manager.
Hewitt has extensive technical expertise, stemming from his studies in civil engineering and his professional background. He brings to the role previous experience within insurance, having worked at Allied World and AIG, and nearly a decade within the construction and engineering industry working at AECOM.
“Hewitt’s impact will resonate within our Construction and Engineering portfolio and across the wider business area. His passion for excellence and innovation aligns perfectly with Vero’s mission to provide leading services and solutions to our brokers and customers,” said Nick Meister, Executive Manager of Business Property at Vero.
His responsibilities will include leading the Vero Construction and Engineering team, as well as portfolio management, proposal and market development, and leadership.
The appointment comes as the industry faces new and complex risks associated with the integration of cutting-edge technology in engineering and construction projects, the company said.
These risks, such as breakdowns in sophisticated equipment and delays caused by new-to-market technology, are difficult to predict and price.
According to Vero, Hewitt’s expertise and experience in managing insurance and reinsurance portfolios for the construction and engineering industries will help the insurance company address these challenges and enhance its knowledge base.
“(Hewitt’s) appointment brings our business team world-class technical expertise and a deep understanding of the ever-changing risk profiles and needs of our construction sector customers,” said Meister.
