Zurich Financial Services Australia has announced the appointment of Morris Garsin as Head of Claims Excellence for its Australia and New Zealand operations, effective August 2025.

Sydney-based Garsin joins from Suncorp, where he is currently Head of Home Claims. He brings over two decades of experience in the financial services sector, with a focus on life and general insurance, and expertise in managing complex natural hazards and supporting vulnerable customers.

In his new role, Garsin will oversee Zurich’s claims strategy and transformation initiatives, with a focus on technology-driven improvements to customer engagement and claims outcomes.

“As Head of Claims Excellence, Morris will be responsible for ensuring we uphold and continually improve Zurich’s customer-centric claims approach, which centres on care and empathy,” Matt Paterson, Chief Claims Officer at Zurich, said.

Paterson added that Garsin will also “play a pivotal role in accelerating our investment in claims technology, including utilising, where appropriate, Artificial Intelligence (AI), which we are already seeing provide significant benefits across claims management timeframes, vulnerable customer identification and data processing.”

Paterson’s appointment follows another major leadership announcement for Zurich Australia this month. Earlier in May, the insurer promoted James Garrett to the position of Head of Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) for Australia and New Zealand. He succeeds Theo Pitsikas, who has relocated to Singapore to become Zurich’s Head of SME for APAC.
