AIA Hong Kong has allocated an additional HK$20m to emergency relief and community recovery efforts for customers and those impacted by the Wang Fuk Court fire in the city’s Tai Po district last week, the insurer announced in a media release on 2 December.
The additional allocation comes after last week’s HK$20m donation by AIA.
“With a total of HK$40m in financial resources and a series of special initiatives, we are committed to providing meaningful support to our customers, their families, and the community during this critical time, alleviating immediate financial pressures and maintaining ongoing protection,” AIA Hong Kong said in a statement.
“At the same time, we remain dedicated to supporting emotional wellbeing and safeguarding against fraud, ensuring that all impacted individuals receive comprehensive and secure assistance,” it added.
Special support will also be available to all eligible AIA Hong Kong customers affected by the incident, including individual life insurance policyholders and insured persons, general insurance policyholders and insured persons, group insurance insured members, and pension scheme members.
Among the initiatives from the insurer are 24/7 real-time personal support via an emergency hotline, mental health and wellbeing support, fast-tracking of claims, and, in some instances, an extension of coverage and zero-interest policy loans.
“We support the community and are committed to helping those affected receive the care they need. Our sincere thanks go to the firefighters, healthcare professionals, first responders, and everyone involved in the rescue efforts for their courage and dedication,” the insurer said.
AIA Hong Kong is among the insurance companies that heeded the Hong Kong insurance sector’s call for mobilisation to provide emergency relief measures following the deadly fire. Manulife, Prudential, Sun Life, FWD, Ping An, and HSBC are among those who have committed between HK$1m and HK$20m to the relief effort.
The blaze, which broke out in the afternoon of 26 Nov, has claimed at least 150 lives.
