(Re)in Summary

• Dhipaya Insurance was named lead insurer for a bar fire in northern Bangkok that killed 27 and injured 73 people.
• The OIC revealed that the venue was insured under a fire policy with total coverage of THB 40m.
• The Commission is verifying victims’ insurance entitlements and coordinating compensation through the Insurance Bureau System.
• The incident marks the third major disaster in 2026 with Dhipaya as the lead insurer.

Dhipaya Insurance has been identified as the lead insurer for a deadly fire at a Bangkok bar that killed 27 people and injured 73 others, Thailand’s Office of Insurance Commission (OIC) said on Monday.

Preliminary checks by the regulator showed the venue was insured under a fire policy issued by Dhipaya Insurance, with total coverage of THB40m (US$1.19m). The policy, effective from March 18, 2026, to March 18, 2027, covers the building, renovations, furniture, fixed installations, electrical appliances and inventory. Damage assessments are ongoing.

The fire, which engulfed the Na Ladprao pub in northern Bangkok on Sunday night, is one of Thailand’s deadliest entertainment venue disasters in recent years, according to Al Jazeera. Authorities said at least 27 people died and 73 were injured, including 25 who remain in critical condition.

Police are investigating whether negligence contributed to the tragedy, including reports of obstructed emergency exits that may have hampered evacuation efforts. It took firefighters around 30 minutes to bring the blaze under control.

The OIC has ordered insurers to provide immediate assistance. The commission is using the Insurance Bureau System (IBS) to verify insurance coverage for each victim and is coordinating with insurers to determine compensation in line with policy terms.

The commission has also set up a coordination centre to receive information on the deceased, verify insurance benefits and assist affected families with claims.

The pub fire is the third major loss event in 2026 for which Dhipaya has been identified as the lead insurer.

In May, the insurer, alongside Muang Thai Insurance, handled claims after a freight train collided with a public bus near Bangkok’s Makkasan station, killing at least eight people and injuring 35.

Earlier in January, the OIC named Dhipaya as the lead carrier on a Contractors’ All Risks policy following a crane accident involving the Bangkok-Ubon express train near Sikhio district that claimed 32 lives.
