HDI Global Specialty SE (HGS) announced today that Richard Upton has been appointed as Head of Financial Lines for New Zealand.

Upton brings more than 20 years of industry experience to his new role, including significant expertise in financial lines across underwriting and claims, in both the New Zealand and the London markets.

He moves to HGS from Zurich, where he served for nearly 10 years, most recently as NZ Financial Lines & Casualty Underwriting Manager. His previous experience also encompasses time at Lumley General Insurance, Allianz, AIG, and IAG.

Mark Fleiser, Managing Director of HDI Global Specialty – NZ, commented on the appointment, “I am very excited to have Richard join us in this key new role of Head of Financial Lines – NZ. It reflects the confidence we have in Richard to spearhead our growth aspirations for New Zealand and more specifically in Financial Lines where we will now crucially have a local presence.”

Following HGS’s acquisition of its New Zealand Licence in 2021, Upton has taken on the responsibility of propelling growth in the company’s financial lines segment within the country.
