Adam Clifford has returned to the American International Group (AIG), assuming the role of Chief Executive Officer for International Commercial Insurance, effective 5 January 2026, the business announced on Tuesday.
Clifford brings over 30 years of experience, most recently serving as Head of International at Everest Insurance for four years.
In his new remit, Clifford will lead AIG’s underwriting, distribution, and business teams across the United Kingdom and Europe, Middle East and Africa, Japan, Asia Pacific and Latin America, including Talbot, Global Specialty and Multinational.
He will be based in London, reporting to General Insurance CEO Jon Hancock and serving on the executive leadership team.
Commenting on the appointment, Hancock recognised Clifford’s leadership and deep underwriting and technical expertise. “With more than three decades of global operating experience with an exceptional track record, including seven years at AIG where he led underwriting teams, Adam brings deep insurance industry knowledge and global perspective to this role,” he said.
Clifford, meanwhile, expressed excitement to rejoin AIG, stating, “I look forward to driving growth across the international commercial insurance business, winning market share, deepening broker relationships, attracting top talent, and delivering the solutions our clients and brokers value.”
The announcement follows the appointment of Scott Leney as regional president for Asia Pacific, after two years with Everest Insurance.
In November, AIG saw the withdrawal of John Neal from his role as president of the General Insurance division before his scheduled start date, citing personal reasons. He had also earlier reversed his decision to join Aon as Global Chief Executive of Reinsurance and Global Chairman of Climate Solutions.
