Allianz SE has pledged up to EUR600,000 (US$702,609) to support emergency response and recovery efforts following severe floods and landslides in parts of Southeast Asia.

In a media release on Friday, the insurer said that the funding would support relief operations in Indonesia, Thailand, and Sri Lanka, where torrential rainfall has caused widespread flooding and landslides, leaving more than 1,100 people dead over the past week and complicating rescue efforts for hundreds still missing.

Of the total amount, EUR300,000 will be channelled to local Red Cross societies and humanitarian aid organisations to provide immediate assistance to affected communities. This includes support for emergency relief efforts targeting those most impacted by the disaster. A further tranche of up to EUR300,000 will be allocated to post-disaster initiatives in collaboration with Allianz’s local operating entities and selected partners.

The second phase of funding will focus on disaster prevention and climate resilience measures, with an emphasis on helping communities rebuild and strengthen preparedness against future extreme weather events.

“Through immediate relief and long-term resilience support, we aim to help families recover, strengthen local communities, and better prepare for future climate-related events,” Renate Wagner, member of the board of management of Allianz SE responsible for Asia-Pacific, mergers and acquisitions, and people and cultures, said.

“Across Indonesia, Thailand, and Sri Lanka, many families and communities are facing significant loss and disruption […] Our immediate focus is on providing relief where it is most needed, while also supporting communities to rebuild and strengthen resilience, so those most affected can move forward with confidence,” Anusha Thavarajah, regional chief executive officer of Allianz Asia-Pacific, added.
