AXA Insurance Thailand expanded its river waste recovery programme in 2025, collecting more than 52,000 litres of waste from Bangkok’s Chao Phraya River, according to newly released project data.

The insurer said its “Licence to Clean” initiative, delivered in partnership with the Oceans For All Foundation, recovered 52,110 litres of waste during the year, representing an increase of nearly 80% compared with 2024 volumes. Of the total collected, 47.5% was classified as recyclable material.

The project began in 2024 with the deployment of a single waste-collection catamaran, LTC004, operating daily along sections of the Chao Phraya River, including tourist areas and riverside communities. In 2025, AXA added a second vessel, LTC005, to increase operational capacity and expand coverage areas.

Both vessels are used for daily river waste collection, with materials sorted and transferred to recycling centres for processing. The catamarans are constructed from high-density polyethylene, a fully recyclable material, and designed for continuous collection and waste segregation operations.

The Chao Phraya River is one of Thailand’s main waterways, running through central Bangkok and supporting transport, tourism, and riverside communities.
