Global specialty (re)insurer Canopius Group has appointed Robert Barnum as Underwriter for Professional Lines in Australia and Asia-Pacific.

Barnum will relocate from Singapore to join Canopius in Sydney, with a focus on Open Market Professional Indemnity and Coverholder business in Australia.

His appointment is part of Canopius’ growth strategy, with the group establishing its Professional Lines business in Australia to strengthen its presence across the Asia Pacific region.

Barnum has over a decade of experience and his prior roles include his most recent as Head of Professional Lines & Cyber Asia-Pacific at Axis Capital in Singapore, as well as prior positions at AXA XL and Lloyd’s Syndicate Catlin in Australia.

Claudio Saita, Head of Australia & Pacific at Canopius, commented that Barnum’s proven track record and leadership qualities will make him a valuable addition to the team, adding that “Rob’s appointment reinforces our commitment to fortifying our presence in Australia and expanding our reach in the broader Asia-Pacific market.”
