Chubb Group and Generali Hong Kong on Friday officially announced donations of HK$10m (approx. US$1.28m) and HK$3m, respectively, to support emergency and financial assistance for families and individuals impacted by the deadly fire in Hong Kong’s Tai Po district.

In a media release on Friday, 5 December, the Chubb Group stated that its donation aims to aid the Hong Kong Red Cross’ relief efforts, including mental health services for those coping with trauma.

“Our life and general insurance businesses have a long-standing presence in Hong Kong and Chubb is proud to be part of this community. We stand in solidarity with the people of Tai Po and all of Hong Kong during this difficult time,” said Evan Greenberg, chairman and CEO of Chubb Group.

In addition to its HK$3m corporate donation, Generali Hong Kong pledged to match voluntary contributions by employees and financial advisors to strengthen recovery efforts.

The company is also providing a one-off donation of HK$10,000 to its policyholders who are residents of Wang Fuk Court for essential expenses.

“Generali Hong Kong expresses sincere concern regarding the fire incident at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po and extends our deepest condolences to all impacted residents and customers,” the group said in a LinkedIn post on Friday.

On 26 November, a fire swept through Wang Fuk Court, claiming at least 150 lives and resulting in estimated insurance losses over US$200m.

This event has seen the insurance industry rally to provide emergency relief, including dedicated hotlines, streamlining and prioritising claims, premium pauses, and waiving of death certificate requirements where possible.

In addition, the industry has contributed donations exceeding HK$327m, as of earlier this week.
