Fusion Specialty today officially announced the appointment of Steven Harwood as Managing Partner for Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) in Asia Pacific.
Tokyo-based Harwood joined Fusion from Volante in January and leads Fusion’s M&A team across a broad geographical area, from New Zealand to India.
He has a 26-year background in transactional liability risks, including the successful establishment of two transactional liability teams in the APAC region.
His experience includes nearly 11 years in Warranty and Indemnity (W&I) and Tax Indemnity—including the underwriting of the first tax indemnity policy in the Japanese market—and his past roles include time at Ironshore Group’s Pembroke Syndicate at Lloyd’s Japan and in the M&A practice of Herbert Smith Freehills’ Tokyo office.
Harwood’s diverse career path also includes service as a Royal Navy officer, a stint as a London-based reinsurance broker, and time as an English-qualified lawyer. This unique background equips him with distinct insight and expertise to lead Fusion’s continued growth in APAC.
Katherine Simmonds, CEO of Fusion International, expressed her enthusiasm for Harwood’s appointment, stating, “We are thrilled to welcome Steven to the company. His extensive background, coupled with a proven track record in navigating complex transactional liability risks, makes him the ideal leader for our M&A team in the Asia Pacific region.”
On his new role, Harwood commented, “I am delighted to join Fusion at a time of exciting opportunities in the M&A insurance landscape. The dynamic markets in the region present unique challenges, and I am keen to leverage my experience to drive Fusion’s success.”
