HDI Global Singapore has promoted Haris Michaels to head of energy and power, Eastern Region, effective 1 March, the commercial and speciality insurer announced in a media release on Wednesday.
Michaels joined HDI Global in 2013 and has since held leadership roles in Australasia before moving to Singapore in August 2025 to take on a broader regional role as engineering underwriting manager for for the region.
Michaels takes over the position from Mark Mackay, who was also announced today as the new global head of energy & power, also effective 1 March.
“I am delighted that Haris Michaels is stepping into this role in Singapore,” Mackay said. “He has already made a strong impact during the transition period and brings the right mix of technical depth, market understanding, and a close-to-client mindset.”
The move comes after HDI Global unveiled its 2026–2029 strategy, branded Xcelerate29, last week, which includes targeted growth in Asia-Pacific, specifically within Southeast Asia, as well as specialty lines such as aviation, crisis management, surety, and credit insurance.
In January, the business announced the opening of its Seoul office in South Korea, in line with its wider APAC expansion plans.
