Andy Buddell has been named Howden’s new chief operating officer for Asia, the broker announced in a LinkedIn post on Wednesday.
Based in Malaysia, Buddell joins the broker from AXA, where he spent seven years and most recently served as director of operations for international markets.
He brings more than two decades of extensive experience in the international insurance market, having led operations and strategic transformation across global markets, with prior stints at AmGeneral Insurance Berhad, AIG Global Services (Malaysia), and CIMB Aviva Assurance.
“Andy’s appointment is a key step in strengthening our regional foundation as we continue to scale and innovate across Asia,” Howden said in its statement. “His deep understanding of the insurance sector and his track record in driving operational excellence make him a valuable addition to our regional leadership team.”
Buddell’s appointment follows that of Mark Kenyon as a partner in Howden New Zealand’s Wellington team last week. Earlier in March, the broker expanded its M&A insurance team in Asia with 12 hires across Singapore, Greater China and Japan, largely drawing on Aon talent.
