The Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) has appointed Ben Howell, Country President of Chubb’s general insurance business in Australia and New Zealand, as a non-executive director on its Board of Directors, effective 8 October 2025.
Howell assumed his current position at Chubb in 2024. He first joined the insurer in 2002 until 2005 as an Underwriter and later returned and has been working with the company since 2016.
Howell has over two decades of industry experience, equipped with expertise in the Asia-Pacific region. He has worked in firms in both Asia and Australia, including AIG in Singapore and Hong Kong, as well as Allied World in Hong Kong and Sydney.
“The insurance industry is grappling with challenges posed by ongoing inflation and intensifying extreme weather events and is focussed on uplifting protections for consumers to support communities bearing the impact of these challenges,” the ICA said in its press release dated 8 October.
“Ben’s experience across multiple lines of insurance and his time as Head of Consumer for Chubb Asia Pacific will be an asset to the Board as this important work progresses,” it added.
The Council also extended its gratitude to outgoing directors Tara Page and Natasha Fenech for their service. Page, who joined the Board in January 2024, completed her tenure in July 2025, while Fenech stepped down on 30 September after six years on the Board.
Howell is joining the ICA Board as the organisation continues to spotlight Australia’s vulnerability to extreme weather. Its latest Insurance Catastrophe Resilience Report ranked the country second only to the United States for insured and economic losses, underscoring the growing urgency of resilience and mitigation efforts.
