Miller hires satoshi watanabe to expand non marine business in japan

Miller has appointed Satoshi Watanabe as Business Development Manager for Lead Insurance Services Limited (Lead), its Japanese business arm.

Watanabe will focus on expanding the broker’s non-marine operations and reports to Tokinori Kono, who was appointed as Head of Non-marine Broking at Lead in June.

Watanabe joins from Marsh Soken, part of Marsh Japan, where he worked since 2019. Healso has a background in business development in non-life insurance, having started his career at NiKKO Cordial Securities and spent three years at AIG General Insurance in a similar role.

“We’re excited to have Watanabe-san start at Lead as we continue to grow our Japanese offering by both scale and product line,” said Ron Whyte, Head of Asia at Miller. “With more than 15 years of insurance experience, Watanabe-san brings deep market expertise and local industry relationships which will prove invaluable to growing our capabilities beyond our already well established marine business.”

Miller acquired Lead in 2022 after a 25-year relationship. Founded in 1994, Lead is a marine-focused broker specialising in Hull, War Risks, and Protection & Indemnity insurance. Watanabe’s appointment is the latest in a series of hires by Miller as it seeks to expand its non-marine presence in Japan.
