MSIG Asia and its parent, MS&AD Insurance Group Holdings, on Thursday announced four leadership changes, with Clemens Philippi, chief executive officer of MSIG Asia, becoming chief strategy officer for international business at MS&AD Insurance Group Holdings, effective 1 April.
Philippi will also serve as an executive officer of the group and maintain his role as chief executive officer of MSIG Asia.
Keisuke Ema, the current general manager of MSI Japan’s international business department, has also been appointed chief strategy officer and will jointly lead the group’s international strategy alongside Philippi.
Both will report to Hironori Morimoto, group chief global officer of MS&AD.
The new structure aims to “enhance strategic integration and collaboration within MS&AD’s international operations”, according to the company.
MSIG also confirmed that Tetsuya Adachi, chairman of MSIG Asia, will step down from his role.
Norihiro Tanaka, the current executive officer and head of planning at MSIG Asia, will take over as chairman. Tanaka has worked for the group for 30 years and has held roles, including general manager at MS Amlin Underwriting and head of liability and cyber at MSI Japan. He will also become an executive officer of MS&AD.
“I would like to express my sincere appreciation to Adachi-san for his contribution and close partnership over the past four years,” Philippi said, stating that during his tenure as chairman, the group grew its core portfolio, excluding India, by 45%, and also established its current 2029 Growth Ambition strategy. “We wish Adachi-san every success in the future and are confident our paths will cross again.”
Philippi added: “On a personal note, I am grateful and excited to take on the role of chief strategy officer at MS&AD. Working as one team with Morimoto-san, Ema-san and many outstanding colleagues, I am confident we will make a positive impact on our clients and partners.”
Speaking on his appointment, Tanaka said: “These are exciting times for MS&AD’s international business, and I am honoured to follow Adachi-san in this role.”
MSIG Asia is part of MS&AD Insurance Group Holdings, which has over 40,000 employees and operates in 48 countries and regions. The group is among the largest non-life insurance groups worldwide by gross revenue, with a strong presence in Southeast Asia and key Asia Pacific markets.
