NRMA Insurance has announced a $200,000 contribution to support this year’s Sculpture by the Sea exhibition in Bondi, ensuring the event will proceed as scheduled on 17 October, the firm said in a press release issued on 26 September.

The insurer’s support comes after organisers launched a public appeal to cover a funding shortfall. According to Sculpture by the Sea, more than $125,000 was raised from donors worldwide within 30 hours, with contributions ranging from small amounts to thousands of dollars. The call for donations closed after NRMA Insurance confirmed its partnership.

NRMA Insurance CEO Julie Batch said the company felt compelled to act once the event’s future was at risk. She said, “Sculpture by the Sea not only celebrates and supports Australia’s arts sector but it also fosters community connection, bringing people together from all walks of life.”

Sculpture by the Sea Founding Director David Handley said the outpouring of support lifted morale among organisers and artists. He then also pointed out that the new partnership would “assist participating artists” and “support the revival of some aspects of the School Education Program in time for next month’s exhibition.”

Handley also expressed gratitude to the wider community, noting the collective support from donors, artists, media, and the public, as well as international messages of encouragement.

This year’s exhibition is scheduled to run from 17 October to 3 November.
