QBE has appointed Carles Tondo as head of property for Asia, effective immediately, the business announced in a media release on Monday.
Singapore-based Tondo joins QBE from Chubb, where he spent four years, most recently serving as head of property and technical lines. He brings more than 17 years of experience in the insurance industry, including 13 years with Zurich and a background that includes property underwriting roles in Spain, Switzerland, and Malaysia, as well as Singapore.
In his new role, he reports to Stephen Geisler, CEO of South Asia. He takes over the property portfolio from Brendan Dunlea, regional head of construction and engineering at QBE Asia, who will continue to lead the construction, engineering, renewables and power generation businesses, as well as QBE Asia’s Resilience vertical. Dunlea reports to Ronak Shah, CEO of Wholesale Markets, Asia.
“We are delighted to welcome Carles as our new Head of Property for Asia,” Geisler said. “I am confident that his extensive international exposure and leadership experience will be instrumental in helping QBE deliver exceptional value to our property clients, as they navigate increasingly complex risks.”
“Together with Brendan, Carles will drive significant momentum in the building and infrastructure resiliency spaces, which are key to our regional growth ambitions,” Geisler added.
Tondo’s appointment follows other recent QBE leadership changes, including naming Sven Liu as head of Greater China and Denise Ng as country lead for marine in Malaysia. In Singapore, the company also appointed Kelly Lim as country lead for cargo and transport operator liability, and Alex Lim as country lead for hull and liability.
