QBE has named Nick Hankin, currently Chief Underwriting Officer for International, as the Managing Director of its reinsurance unit, QBE Re, effective 1 January 2026, the business announced on Monday, 15 December.
Hankin has been with QBE for nearly six years, serving in its underwriting operations based in the United Kingdom. Before joining the company in 2020, he held roles at major firms, including RSA, Aviva, AIG, Zurich Insurance, and AXA.
“With more than 30 years of underwriting experience, he has a proven record of combining technical expertise with executive,” QBE Europe stated in its LinkedIn post announcing the move.
In a separate press release, QBE also clarified that Hankin will remain as the CUO of QBE International. The recruitment for his post is underway, with an official announcement to be made “in due course.”
Commenting on the appointment, Jason Harris, QBE International’s chief executive, stressed the strategic importance of the company’s reinsurance division: “I’m confident Nick and the QBE Re team will continue to deliver for our cedants and partners through engagement and the strength of our global franchise.
Hankin takes over from Chris Killourhy, who was appointed Group Chief Financial Officer in October this year. The move also comes amid key leadership changes at QBE in Asia, including the appointments of Stephen Geisler as CEO for South Asia, Ross Bethell as Head of Partnerships for Asia, and QBE Re’s Cindy Foo as Head of Asia, Treaty.
