Rokstone, the international specialty (re)insurance managing general agent (MGA), on Thursday (5 June) announced that Rama Chandran has been appointed to lead its Asia-Pacific marine growth expansion.
Chandran brings over 40 years of experience in marine insurance and will join the MGA after nearly a decade at QBE, where he has been serving as Head of Marine for Asia. He will join the business as Director, Head of Marine after serving a three-month notice period.
James Potter, Chairman at Rokstone, said that Chandran’s appointment represents “a major step forward in our global marine strategy”.
“His reputation, technical excellence, and leadership credentials are second to none, and we are incredibly proud to welcome him to the team. Rama will be instrumental in building our presence in Asia and underscores our commitment to a long-term, disciplined, and innovative approach to Marine underwriting,” Potter added.
As part of its expansion in Asia, Rokstone—part of the Aventum Group—is establishing a regional hub in Singapore, which the business says will be backed by a multi-year, US$25m Lloyd’s capacity agreement and is expected to underwrite all marine classes, including Construction (Builders Risk), Cargo, Hull, and Liability.
Chandran will oversee the MGA’s expansion strategy across the region, bringing with him experience across facultative and treaty business from senior roles at businesses including Argo Underwriting, Asia Capital Re, and Swiss Re.
Chandran previously chaired the Ocean Hull Committee at the International Union of Marine Insurance (IUMI), where he continues to serve as a committee member. He is also part of the Marine Committee at the General Insurance Association of Singapore, and has been recognised by Lloyd’s List as one of the most influential figures in global marine insurance.
