Starr Insurance has named Vichai Laotrakul as chief executive officer of its Thailand operations, the business announced on LinkedIn on Monday.
Laotrakul brings more than 20 years of underwriting experience to the role. He joins from Allianz Ayudhya, where he was chief distribution officer — his second stint at the group, following a three-and-a-half-year tenure from 2016 to 2019. His previous roles include Head of P&C at Muang Thai Insurance and Southeast Insurance and Finance Group, and more than a decade at AIG.
In his new role, Vichai will take charge of business growth, oversee business performance, and work to strengthen Starr’s market position in Thailand, bringing “deep expertise and leadership” to the team, Starr said.
The move comes following a busy year so far with Starr, including the completion of its IQUW group acquisition, and the regional appointments of Jean Michoud as regional travel partnerships lead for Asia-Pacific, Vivian Xiao as head of financial lines for China, and Danielle An as head of financial lines for Singapore and wholesale business for Asia.
