Sun Life has partnered with Aflatoun International to launch a regional financial literacy initiative aimed at strengthening the financial skills of more than 30,000 domestic workers across Asia.
The “Brighter Financial Futures” programme will run for 12 months in Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Vietnam, providing educational workshops, toolkits, and training sessions tailored for different stages of employment.
Asia accounts for around 40% of the world’s domestic workers, a group that plays a critical economic role but often lacks access to structured financial education, according to the companies.
“At Sun Life, our mission is to help clients and communities achieve lifetime financial security,” David Broom, chief client and distribution officer at Sun Life Asia, said. “Financial literacy, education and empowerment are central to that mission, and our partnership with Aflatoun International ensures we’re reaching underserved communities.”
The programme builds on Sun Life’s earlier collaboration with Hong Kong-based charity Uplifters through the “Dare to Dream” initiative, expanding the insurer’s financial education efforts to a wider regional audience. Additional local partners are expected to be named in 2026 under the Brighter Financial Futures banner.
Training will be delivered both online and in person, covering emergency savings, long-term planning, and protection from informal lending and scams. It will also include modules on resilience and communication to support healthier financial decision-making within families.
“Financial education empowers communities from the ground up. By giving domestic workers the confidence and tools to manage their finances, we help unlock new opportunities – not just for themselves, but also for their families and the broader community,” Kirsten Theuns, director of strategic partnerships and development at Aflatoun, said.
