Prudential plc announced on Wednesday that Douglas Flint will be its new chair and non-executive director, succeeding Shriti Vadera, who will retire from the board after six years of service.
Flint has been chair of Abeerdeen Group plc since 2019 and IP Group plc since 2018. He also spent over two decades at HSBC, where he served as group finance director from 1995 to 2010 and as group chair from 2010 to 2017.
Flint will join the British insurer’s board in March, subject to regulatory approval, to help an orderly handover before Vadera’s departure. He will also join the company’s nomination and governance and remuneration committees.
“Being able to help shape the next stage of Prudential’s development is a great privilege and I look forward to working together with the board, Anil, and the whole team to deliver great experience to customers, and real value to shareholders and wider stakeholders,” Flint said. “The business is well placed to meet the needs of our customers and to expand the provision of protection, health and savings solutions to currently under-served markets.”
For Prudential CEO Anil Wadhwani, Flint brings extremely valuable expertise to the board and deep knowledge of Asia, which is particularly important for the company. “I look forward to working with him to shape the next phase of Prudential’s growth. I am personally deeply grateful for Shriti’s leadership, counsel and support in the last few years,” he said.
Flint’s appointment follows Prudential’s announcement earlier this month of its launch of a $1.2 billion share buyback to be completed by December 2026 and last month’s completion of ICICI Prudential Asset Management’s IPO listing in India.
