The Australian government has appointed Robert McLean to the board of the Australian Reinsurance Pool Corporation (ARPC) and reappointed chair Julie-Anne Schafer and several existing board members, according to an announcement by Assistant Treasurer and Minister for Financial Services Daniel Mulino.

McLean has been appointed as a part-time board member until July 2028. He is general manager, business and advisory services and innovation and delivery, and deputy insurance commissioner for the National Injury Insurance Agency Queensland and Motor Accident Insurance Commission Queensland.

Schafer has been reappointed as part-time chair and board member until July 2030. Board members Eilis Hurley, Fran Raymond and Greg Nucifora were also reappointed until July 2030, while Evelyn Horton and Kent Griffin were reappointed until July 2028. Guy Thorburn was reappointed as a part-time observer until July 2028.

Schafer said the appointments reinforced the strength and depth of expertise across the board. “I welcome the reappointment of my fellow Board members and the appointment of Robert McLean. Their combined experience across insurance, financial services, government and risk management will further strengthen the Board’s capability,” she said.

ARPC also acknowledged outgoing board member Rod Whithear and thanked him for his service.

The corporation administers the terrorism reinsurance pool and cyclone reinsurance pool under the Terrorism and Cyclone Insurance Act 2003. The board is responsible for ARPC’s governance and strategic direction.

This version avoids counting board members, avoids implying departures beyond what was stated, and keeps every factual statement tied directly to the announcement.
