The Australian Reinsurance Pool Corporation (ARPC) has appointed Cameron Hick as its next chief underwriting officer following a market selection process, according to a media release on Friday.

Hick has started as chief underwriting officer designate and will work with the current chief underwriting officer, Michael Pennell, during the transition. Pennell is due to commence leave on 14 September before retiring on 27 November.

Hick joined ARPC in July 2024 as head of technical underwriting, overseeing the function across its terrorism and cyclone pools.

He brings nearly 30 years of experience in the global reinsurance market and has held roles across underwriting, client management, broking and portfolio strategy. Prior to joining ARPC, he worked at Munich Re in Australia and Germany, PartnerRe in Switzerland, and held reinsurance broking roles with Willis Re, Gallagher Re and Aon.

Commenting on his appointment, Hick said: “My focus will be on further strengthening our capability, working closely with insurers and ensuring the terrorism and cyclone pools remain efficient and effective.”

Hick’s appointment follows a series of leadership changes at ARPC, including the appointment of Robert McLean to the board and the reappointment of chair Julie-Anne Schafer and several existing board members.
