Manulife Vietnam has appointed Ankur Shah as chief agency officer, the insurer announced on Friday.

Based in Ho Chi Minh City, Shah joins Manulife Vietnam after more than eight years with HDFC Life in India, most recently serving as executive committee member and chief proprietary officer. Before HDFC Life, Shah spent more than 17 years with ICICI Bank, where he held a range of senior roles across retail and business banking.

“Ankur brings over 25 years of leadership experience across insurance and financial services, with a proven track record of scaling distribution businesses, leading transformation, and building high-performing organisations,” the company said in its announcement.

In his new role, Shah will lead Manulife Vietnam’s agency channel, with a focus on expanding the business, advancing professional standards and supporting sustainable, profitable growth.

The appointment follows a series of distribution leadership moves across Manulife’s Asian operations, including Jeremy Young’s appointment to lead international brokerage and global high-net-worth distribution, Carrie Tong’s promotion to chief distribution officer for Hong Kong and Macau, and Sook Yann Lee’s appointment as chief partnership distribution officer at Manulife Malaysia.

The moves come as Manulife Asia reported a 13% year-on-year growth in new business value in the second quarter, alongside stronger sales across the region.
