Malaysian Insurance Deposit Corporation (PIDM) has appointed Afiza Abdullah as Chief Executive Officer for a three-year term, effective 28 August 2026, the authority said on Monday.
She succeeds Rafiz Azuan Abdullah, who served as CEO for nine years.
Afiza Abdullah brings two decades of experience across banking and insurance, with expertise spanning financial regulation, policy development, crisis management and resolution.
Her appointment follows a structured succession path at PIDM. She joined the organisation in 2011 and rose from general manager, policy and international, in 2016 to executive vice-president, resolution, in 2022.
PIDM said Abdullah has led key initiatives under its Takaful and Insurance Benefits Protection System (TIPS), including enhancements to the Differential Levy System to promote sound risk management among insurer members and updates to TIPS information regulations.
Before joining PIDM, she spent almost a decade at Bank Negara Malaysia, where she worked on prudential policy matters, including the modernisation of the Central Bank of Malaysia Act 2009 and development of the Financial Sector Blueprint.
“The Board is confident that her appointment will provide a seamless transition and continuity in PIDM’s critical work to advance resolution readiness and crisis preparedness,” said PIDM chairman Datuk Abu Huraira Abu Yazid.
Established in 2005, Perbadanan Insurans Deposit Malaysia (PIDM) administers Malaysia’s Deposit Insurance System and TIPS and provides protection against the loss of deposits and insurance or takaful benefits held with member institutions in the event of a failure.
