Benjamin deng to join sun life in newly created role of president of asia asset management

Benjamin Deng will join Sun Life on January 1 in the newly created role of President of Asia Asset Management, the insurer announced in a statement on Friday.

Deng joins the business from Ping An Insurance, where he was serving as Group Chief Investment Officer and responsible for the group-wide insurance investment management with US$740bn in assets under management (AUM).

In his new role, Deng will join the business’s Asia Executive Team. He has a dual reporting line to Manjit Singh, President of Sun Life Asia, and Steve Peacher, Executive Chair of SLC Management, Sun Life’s institutional asset management business.

“We are delighted to welcome Benjamin to Sun Life,” says Singh. With [Deng’s] deep industry expertise and proven leadership, I am confident that he will drive significant growth in our asset management business in the years ahead.”

Deng’s prior experience includes roles such as Group Chief Investment Officer at China Pacific Insurance, Group Head of Investment Solutions and Derivatives at AIA, and Senior Analyst in Market Risk Management at AIG, according to LinkedIn.

He has also served as Vice Chairman of the Insurance Asset Management Association of China (IAMAC) since November 2018.
