Allianz Commercial has appointed Nina Simons as Global Head of MidCorp Underwriting, a newly created, position effective 1 July.

Based in Munich, Simons returns from maternity leave to assume the role, reporting to Vanessa Maxwell, Chief Underwriting Officer at Allianz Commercial. She has been with the Allianz Group for over 15 years, most recently serving as Strategic Transformation Leader.

In her new position, Simons will lead the global underwriting strategy for the MidCorp segment. Her remit includes overseeing underwriting governance, supporting transformation efforts, and ensuring strategic alignment across teams.

According to Allianz, the role also involves “tracking global portfolios using data insights, focusing on emerging risks to guide the business forward.”

Simons has held a range of business development and underwriting roles within Allianz Commercial and Allianz SE, including leadership positions in Central Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa.

Congratulating Simons on the appointment, Maxwell said: “We are happy to have Nina back to take on this key strategic role in our leadership team. As we continue to drive forward the integrated Allianz Commercial approach, her expertise in underwriting and transformation will be crucial in strengthening our global strategy for MidCorp.”

Allianz Commercial has also made numerous leadership announcements across the APAC region this quarter. Earlier this month, Nagalaxmi Shetty was appointed as the Chief Compliance Officer for India. In April, the firm tapped Will Slade to lead portfolio solutions in Asia. Also in April, John Whealans was promoted to Head of Broker Partnerships, and Mark Sutton was appointed Head of Client Engagement, both in Australia.
