Markel Insurance has launched its warranty and indemnity (W&I) insurance offering in the Asia-Pacific region, appointing Siddick Khan as senior underwriter, W&I, in Hong Kong and Shubhi Nigam as its first dedicated W&I underwriter in Mumbai to support its entry into these markets.
Khan will underwrite transactional risks in Singapore, Hong Kong, and other key Asia-Pacific markets. He will report to Kevin Leung, chief underwriting officer, Asia-Pacific, while also working closely with Bryan Dressler, global head of W&I Insurance, and the London team.
Khan joins after three years with Aon, where he worked in the transactional solutions team. Prior to his time at the broker, he spent more than a decade at PwC, specialising in financial due diligence, data analytics, strategic investment, and cross-border execution.
Meanwhile, in her new role, Nigam will focus on the Indian market and report to Priyesh Pradhan, senior underwriter – professional financial risks and cyber.
Nigam joins Markel with M&A and corporate law experience from Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co., AZB & Partners, Trilegal, and Bharucha & Partners, and has advised private equity investors, multinational companies, and domestic businesses on transactions, joint ventures, due diligence, and deal structuring.
“Expanding our W&I capabilities across Asia-Pacific is a natural progression, as demand for highly technical transactional risk solutions increases,” Leung said. “Siddick and Shubhi bring strong execution capability to our growing APAC platform and their collaboration with Bryan and the London team ensures that we continue to deliver consistent, best-in-class support across markets.”
The hires of Khan and Nigam are the latest in a series of appointments by the Lloyd’s underwriter this year, including John Bang as first head of Korea and Japan, Flora Mao as first casualty underwriter in Mainland China, and, more recently, Ravi Jain as business development and distribution lead for India.
