Markel Insurance on Thursday announced the appointment of Ravi Jain as business development and distribution lead for India, effective immediately.

Based in Mumbai, Jaiin brings more than 18 years of experience in India’s insurance and broking sector, including over a decade at HDFC ERGO. He reports to Deepika Mathur, the specialty insurer’s managing director for India.

In his new role, Jain is tasked with expanding Markel’s footprint in the country, by collaborating with brokers and other distribution stakeholders to identify new commercial opportunities. He will also help shape Markel’s wider international distribution strategy, according to the business.

“Ravi’s robust experience and strong broker relationships make him a valuable addition to our team,” said Mathur. “His local expertise and dedication to service will be instrumental in advancing our strategic goals and supporting our partners and customers.”

Jain’s appointment is the latest in a series of key strategic APAC appointments for Markel since the turn of the year. Last month, the business tapped John Bang as its first head of Korea and Japan, while in January the business appointed its first casualty underwriter in Mainland China.

From a broader global perspective, the business also promoted Phil Amlot to lead international trade credit , and Colin Wildey to international CRO last month.
