Munich Re has appointed Michaela Hannemann as head of non-life for Australasia effective 1 May 2026, succeeding Anja Linsmaier, the global reinsurer announced in a statement on Monday.

Hannemann will relocate to Sydney, bringing more than two decades of (re)insurance experience — including 18 years at Gen Re.

She joined Munich Re in 2021 as regional head of casualty treaty underwriting for Japan, Korea, India, and Southeast Asia, based in Singapore, before moving into the role of chief underwriting officer for casualty, and head of corporate underwriting for casualty, aviation, marine, and legal, based in Munich.

“Michaela brings deep expertise across underwriting and client management, along with a strong, people focused leadership style,” Munich Re said in an announcement, adding that, since joining the business she has “made a meaningful impact on our business across Asia-Pacific and Europe, and we look forward to her bringing value to our clients in Australia and New Zealand.”

“We sincerely thank Anja Linsmaier for her remarkable leadership of our non-life business in Australasia over the past four years,” said Scott Hawkins, head of Munich Re Australisia. “I am delighted that we have found a successor in Michaela Hannemann and I am confident her extensive leadership skills, strong international background, and broad technical experience are a great fit for our business.”
