(Re)in Summary

• AIA Hong Kong and Macau partnered with Concord Healthcare to give group insurance members access to proton therapy and health screening at Guangzhou Concord Cancer Center at preferential rates.
• The move reflects Hong Kong’s push to expand cross-boundary healthcare access amid rising cancer cases and an ageing population.
• Balanced demand from local residents and returning mainland visitors continues to sustain growth in the territory’s life insurance sector.

AIA Hong Kong and Macau has formed a strategic partnership with Concord Healthcare Group, giving eligible members of its designated group insurance plans more affordable access to cancer proton therapy and health screening packages at Guangzhou Concord Cancer Center. The agreement, signed on 11 September 2025, was announced in a press release issued 16 September.

The Guangzhou facility, part of Concord’s flagship network, is recognised for advanced cancer treatment capabilities, including proton therapy. While this treatment is valued for its precision and less invasive approach, high costs in Hong Kong have made affordability a barrier. Under this collaboration, insured members can access care at preferential rates, reducing financial strain for employees and their families.

Ms Amelie Shen, Chief Corporate Solutions Officer of AIA Hong Kong and Macau, said: “This partnership is more than a healthcare solution – it represents our commitment to helping organisations and their employees access to more affordable advanced cancer care — when they need it most.”

The partnership comes as insurers in Hong Kong expand cross-boundary healthcare access to meet demographic shifts and rising demand. With that, authorities have urged insurers to develop more cross-border products, particularly for elderly care, to improve affordability and access in the Greater Bay Area.

Other insurers in the SAR have taken similar steps, including Manulife, which recently widened its hospital coverage to more than 38,000 facilities in Mainland China, and Prudential Hong Kong, which expanded direct billing services for cancer care with cross-border partnerships.
