Berkley Insurance Company said on Thursday that it will enter the Indian market after receiving approval from the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) to establish a branch office in Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City).
“Our entry into the Indian market underscores our commitment to selectively developing our business in Asia,” said W. Robert Berkley, Jr., President and Chief Executive officer of W. R. Berkley Corporation. “We look forward to bringing our specialty insurance products to the Indian market,” Berkley added.
Alongside the approval, Berkley Insurance announced it has appointed Unnati Bajpai as CEO and Principal Officer of the IFSC Branch.
Bajpai joined Berkley Insurance in July 2024 as a consultant. She previously worked at Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty (AGCS) for nearly 10 years, where she last held the position of Regional Practice Leader – Cyber & Technology PI, Asia.
Prior to AGCS, she held roles at HDFC Ergo General Insurance and Tata AIG, according to LinkedIn.
In her new role, Bajpai will become part of the Berkley Insurance Asia leadership team and will collaborate closely with Shasi Nair, CEO of Berkley Insurance Asia.
