China Shipowners Mutual Assurance Association (China P&I Club) has launched Hong Kong Shipowners Mutual Assurance Association Ltd, a new mutual insurance platform targeting shipowners in the region.
In a media release, China P&I Chairman Xu Lirong said the new entity will leverage Hong Kong’s position as a global trade, shipping, and financial centre to offer shipowners a range of comprehensive, one-stop insurance services, including protection and indemnity cover. It also further aligns China’s P&I business with international standards, he added.
The Club will leverage Hong Kong as its operational hub to orchestrate coordinated development across the entire shipping industry chain, combining global perspective with innovative thinking to forge industry consensus and accelerate transformation, China P&I Club said.
Through this strategic positioning, the mutual aims to strengthen coordination between Hong Kong and mainland shipping insurance markets, enhance market dynamism, and unlock new cooperation opportunities that benefit the broader maritime ecosystem, the business added.
The new mutual was officially inaugurated on 17 November at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, during the opening ceremony of Hong Kong Maritime Week 2025 and the World Shipping Summit.
