Dive in with wire addressing the needs of family caregivers

Women in Reinsurance (WiRE) Singapore is thrilled to support the 2024 Dive In festival, focusing on the theme “A Sustainable Future: The Next 10 Years.” This year’s festival emphasizes creating inclusive workplaces that address global challenges, including caregiving and family responsibilities.

In line with this theme, WiRE is hosting a data-driven panel discussion titled “Sustainable Workplaces: Addressing the Needs of Family Caregivers.” on the 26 September from 5:30pm.

The panel, moderated by Mira Mohan from Willis Tower Watson, will feature a distinguished group of experts: Boo Hui Yun, CEO & Head of Asia & Middle-East at Munich Re Specialty; Pearl Ang, Health Manager at Special Olympics APAC; Sanjiv Agarwal, Head of Human Resources for Southeast Asia at Swiss Re; and Tan Siew Choo, Head of Engineering & Property Solutions for Asia at Helvetia.

Our environment and society continue to evolve, so does the complexities of caregiving.

The burden of caregiving, often disproportionately shouldered by women, extends beyond traditional childcare responsibilities to include diverse needs such as caring for ageing parents, managing special needs, and addressing long-term care requirements for ill family members.

Additionally, cultural expectations, such as the perception of stay-at-home dads or the role of eldest daughters, further complicate the caregiving landscape. This ultimately impacts women’s career progression and professional growth. To address these challenges, it is crucial to broaden our understanding of caregiving and to foster supportive ecosystems within organizations.

Therefore, our discussion aims to cover:

  1. Awareness of Caregiving Needs, including non-traditional needs: Exploring the diverse and often overlooked caregiving responsibilities, unique to each individual that impact professional lives and career progression.
  2. Corporate and HR Policies: Analysing how current practices can be adapted to support caregivers, what are corporate considerations and develop inclusive, sustainable workplaces.
  3. Leadership and Culture: Examining how leaders can create empathetic and supportive environments that acknowledge and address caregiving needs.

To enrich the discussion, WiRE and WiN have conducted a survey to gather member feedback on caregiving responsibilities and their own experiences around the topic. Additionally, data from Willis Tower Watson’s first-ever Gender Report for the Singapore reinsurance industry will provide insights into gender equity challenges and opportunities. The report presents certain interesting insights to the challenges our industry faces around Gender equity, including the impact on career progression over life stages.

This in-person event aims to foster open dialogue and personal sharing in a supportive setting. We have consciously curated this as an in-person event which would allow the audience and panel members to engage freely in a safe space to share their personal stories and experiences.

We look forward to concluding the event with networking drinks, encouraging further interactions and connections. Please join us in exploring how we can support family caregivers and drive meaningful change in the industry.

WiRE looks forward to hosting you all for this event at Munich re Singapore, 18 Cross Street on the 7th Floor between 5:30 to 8:30 PM on the 26th of September.

This event is co-sponsored by Munich re & Swiss re.
